Hey Chip,
Saw your other post so get that answer too. A standing seam roof is touted as a "weathertight" construction. It's great. I've seen a number of them built and still very much in use with NO deterioration. They are basically interlocking panels that will run vertically from the roof's ridge (that's the top of the roof, sorry, I don't know how much you know about roofs) to the eave. Where two panels join together forms an interlocking seam that is raised above the roof's flat suface - thus the name standing seam. This is key - it allows water to run off without seeping between panels. Most of these roofs are pre-engineered to one shape at the factory, some are cut at the job site. There's even another option that arrives in usually pre-packaged 3 to 5 foot le4ngths that you can stagger for visual effect if you need that. Hope this helps.
