Delivery of a Garage
It’s imperative to have a safe, smooth, and timely delivery of your garage. Proper attention and care should be given to every step of the way when handling your garage once it leaves the production facility until it arrives at your project site. The following are a few of the details that should be noticed about delivery of any structure.
Delivery Information
Most metal and wood garage manufacturers will ship anywhere in the world. Some include shipping in the price of the structure; others add it on to the price of the building. Check with the manufacturer with their policies regarding delivery options. Accessories such as doors and windows are usually shipped separately, so those incur separate shipping charges.
Shipping Costs
Most manufacturers can give you a very reliable freight estimate prior to you placing your order. Cartage fees may apply, however, if the location of your project will not allow access by an 18 wheeler or a 53 foot truck.
Delivery down Time
Garage deliveries will require at least an hour of time, maybe more, for off -loading of the components. Most manufacturers do not provide for off-loading personnel or equipment. You or your contractor must provide this.
Before Delivery is Made
Most manufacturers will have a customer service representative call you with the schedule of the order for delivery. This is usually done days before the actual shipment.
Week of Shipping
In many instances, a specific week is assigned by the manufacturer for delivery of your metal or wood garage. The freight company generally will verify the delivery and call you with a tentative delivery date. Travel times vary with the amount of distance between your project location and the factory.
Before Delivery
The freight company will let you know that a delivery truck for your order has been booked, normally during the week that your garage is slated for delivery. The day before delivery, the driver will call with an expected time for delivery.
Delivery of your Garage
Most metal and wood garage manufacturers take the time to make sure that the component parts are secured and shipped as safely as possible. A number of companies will do this packaging on wooden skids. Skids provide a strong base and concentrated way in order to package and ship all component products. More often than not, these will be shrink-wrapped or taped so that the component parts are protected during shipment and while being off-loaded during delivery.
Off Loading of the Garage
If your garage is metal or wood, it will generally be off-loaded piece by piece. If the structure is pre-cut and in sections, it will most likely be pre-assembled. Note: Delivery drivers do not normally help in the off-loading of the delivery. You have to make sure that a crew is hired for this task. Certain hand tools may be necessary and possibly a forklift might come is handy for the larger items. Check with the manufacturer on their recommendations for what should be essential to off load your garage.
If your garage is pre-cut, this will generally require at least two people for off-loading. If it is pre-assembled, at least three people will be required.
The project site should already be carefully cleared and ready to receive all of the materials delivered.
