Ordering a Garage Building
There are usually a number of steps that need to be taken once you’ve decided on the garage that is suitable to your needs.
Ordering a Building
Most companies offer the ability for you to order a metal or wood garage building either online or through a 1-800 number. Make sure that there is a contract available that stipulates exactly what the specifications for the structure will be.
Deposits and Payments
Normally the company you are dealing with will require a deposit to secure both the price and production space for your garage. This deposit can range from 10% to 50%. The balance due is either satisfied prior to shipping or is paid in full upon delivery.
Your Privacy and Security
If ordering online, be sure the company is taking safeguards to protect the misuse or loss of the information that you give them. Industry-stand encryption technology should be utilized for any forwarding of your personal financial information. This information should only be available to the necessary personnel who are handling your billing information.
Your information should never be released by the company to third parties. Your name should be protected from inclusion in any databases that may result in “junk mail”.
Shipping Preparations
The company you are dealing with should provide you with a shipping date once the building has been ordered. This date is usually an estimate and can change do to production schedule adjustments. The amount of time it takes to ship an order will vary from company to company and can range from 4 weeks to 3 months depending upon the complexity of the garage. As the company gets closer to the shipping date, they will call to confirm an actual delivery date. With a number of pre-engineered steel building manufacturers, a certified check is necessary as payment with the delivery of the garage.
Next, there are usually a number of steps that need to be taken.
Shipment Preparations
You should be fully prepared to accept delivery once shipment has been made. Generally, there is storage fees involved with shipments that are delayed out of the factory.
Purchase Order Changes
Check carefully with the company about purchase order changes. Some companies allow a week to make changes free of cost, while others will make substantial charges from day one. It’s best to know exactly what you want before ordering any garage, because once the structure is in production it can become prohibitively expensive to make any changes.
Canceling or Returning an Order
In almost no circumstances will a company of a metal or wood garage allow for cancellation of the order or return of the product. Again, know exactly what you want before ordering you purchase.
Permitting and Refunds
Securing a building permit after the order has been placed may result in adjustments to the design of the garage. Companies differ on a refund policy as to not being able to modify the garage in order to satisfy local building codes. Some companies will provide a full refund for a short period of time, while others won’t at all even if a permit can’t be secured. Check with the company about their policy before you order.
Warranties
Metal and wood garage suppliers vary with their warranties. Depending on their construction methods, the warranty can range from anything between 5 and 50 years.
